AMERICAN WOMAN'S SPEED. FINE OF £10 IMPOSED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. A fine of £10 was imposed on Mrs. R. L. Crudgington, a visitor from Cincinatti, U.S.A., for speeding on Ferry Road. Mr. Loughnan, for the City Council, said defendant crossed-an intersection at 40 mike an hour. She had passed everything on the road and had crossed several intersections at this speed. She had no license. Counsed for defendant (Mr. Haelam) said that in America the speed was greater. It waethe first drive she had had since arriving in New Zealand and she had been enjoying it when the inspector appeared. The speedometer on the car was broken. The Magistrate (Mr. Mosley) : Where is the lady? Mr. Haelam: She's not here, sir. The Magistrate: I'd like to talk to her. Mr. Haelam: She ie going away in the course of a couple of day*. The Magistrate: We had better get her fine before she goes. Mr. Loughnan: Introduce some foreign capital. The Magistrate: I think we had better have a little United States money for the benefit of the city. The defendant was fined £10 and costs, and solicitor's fee, £1 11/6.
