ROYAL POLICE ESCORT.

SELECTED MEN PARADE. AVERAGE HEIGHT, 6ft 3in. The 72 constables, selected from various stations in the Dominion to provide a special Royal escort for the Duke on his tour of Xew Zealand, have assembled at Auckland. The southern detachment, comprising Senior-Serseant Lander. Sergeant D. Wilson and 38° men from Wellington, Sergeant T. H. Dver from Masterton, Sergeant C. Peterson from Timaru, Sergeant S. Martin from New Plymouth, four constables from Christchurch, one from Wanganui and two each from Timaru. Palmerston North and Napier police districts arrived yesterday morning. Together with the 13 men picked from Auckland, they paraded at the Auckland police station this morning. The selected men are all of fine physique, their average height be'ms 6ft 3in. The Commissioner of Police, Mr. W. •B. Mcllveney, and Senior Superintendent Broberg, of Wellington, who will accompany the Royal escort on'the tour, inspected the parade. Mr. McEveney, in addressing the men. < told them that they were to exercise every discretion in the execution of the unfamiliar duties which had to be performed. Their work would be arduous, and they would have to handle huge crowds, but tbey were to avoid harsh treatment and blunt address. • Mr. W. G.
