SUMMER MEETING OPENS. CUP TO SEA PEARL. WIS* FOR JEWEL POESTER. Beautiful weather and a large attendance greeted the Otahuhu Trotting Club on Saturdav, when the summer meeting was opened. The racing was of the exciting order all through, the finishes i in the majoritv of events being verv close. The Otahuhu Cup went to Sea Pearl, owned in Auckland, but trained bv R. Berry at Curistchnrch. Details of the concluding results were: — PRESIDENTS HANDICAP of 500sovs. Two miles. 7—PETER SWIFT., b g, aged, by Petereta—Swift (Mr. J. R. (3) Ngatira, (S) Mutn, (11) Al Mack, (12) Tradesman, (6) Wimmera King, (10) Aerial Bingen 12yds, (9) The Tartar 24yds. (3) Pyramus 4Syds. Betty Moko was favourite with £1106. Ingle Bingen carrying £ 1059, Ngatira £ 1054, while the winner carried £ 549. Ingle Bingen went away quickly and led for a mile, when Betry Moko took charge and entered the last lap, leading Ingle Bingen, Ngatira. Mutu, Wimmera King, and Peter Swift la that order. Along the back Ingle Bingen dropped out and Betty Moko led Ngatira. while Peter Swift put la a good run, and there was very little between the trio crossing the top. Betry Moko was first to turn for home, but tired in the last 30 yards, and Peter Swift won by three-quartera of a length from Pete Peter, who made up a lot of ground from the home turn. Betty Moko was a neck away, third, and Wimmera King was fourth, followed by Tradesman and Ngatira. Times: 4.42 2-5, 4.42 4-3. 4.42. Winner trained by D. Withers, Islington. PAPAKURA HANDICAP of 400sovs. Two miles. S—RESPECT, b g. aged, by Gold BeU —Miss Albert (Mr. A. R. Saunders), 12yds^—Johnston 1 10—BINGEN STAR, br g, aged (Mr. R. A. Direct Morning carrying £1133, Direct I Wood £961. Bingen Scar £202, and the winner £ Direct Morning failed to I go away and practically took no part in the race. Van Rich was the early leader from Bingen Star, Respect and Some Wilkes. There was no alteration in the position, and Van Rich was still leader when they entered the last circuit. Just before entering the back. Respect oroke up and lost his position. There was little between Bingen . Star and Van Rich turning for home, where Some Wilkes was running third, the others I appearing to be hopelessly beaten. Van Rich tired in the run home, and just when Bingen Star looked a winner. Respect came with a great run and got up In time to win by a head. Some Wilkes was a head away. half a length in front of Machine Gun. Times : 4.3D 2-5, 4.40 3-3, 4.4 4-5. Talent was made favourite with £ 1272, Bessie Logan, the second choice, carrying H1204. Hughie Wallace had £ 887, and Jewel Pointer £SSO. With the exception of Glandore all moved away weU. When they were properly settled down Goldman had run to the front, and led past the stand from Doctor Dillon. Jewel Pointer, Cute Lad and Talent. Cute Lad moved up third along the back, and crossing the top Goldman was still the leader from Jewel Pointer, Talent, and Cute Lad, Just In front of a bunch. In the run home Jewel Pointer finished best, and beat Goldman by three-quarters of a length, with Bessie Logan a head away, and Talent almost in line, followed by Peter Bingen, Hughie Wallace, All Bell and Doctor Dillon. Times: 2.49, 2-5, 2.49 4-5, 2.48. Winner trained by J. Shaw, Ellerslie. After the race S. M. Groat, rider of Cute Lad, was cautioned for careless driving and interfering with Talent at the mile and a-quarter post the second time round. RAILWAY HANDICAP. Of 350&0v5. Firpo was a solid favourite, carrving £2021, the bracket, Reliance and Kingsclere being second choice with £ 1439. Satinbird had £730. and Mulwaree £431. Satinbird began quickest, but soon gave way to Bicolor, the latter leading past the stand from Mulwaree, William the First, Liberate, and Delavan BilL The order was unchanged along the back, and Bicolor was still in front turning into the straight from Mulwaree. Liberate, and Master Councillor. In the run to the judge. Liberate finished best, and beat Mulwaree by a length and a-quarter. Bicolor being half a head away third, and Lord Nelson rourrh. Master Councillor was next, followed by Amaris, Huon Grattan, and Uncle BertTimes. 2.15, 2.1S 2-5, 2.20. Winner trained by R. A. McMillan, Tamahere.
