NOT OVER-STAFFED.

WAITEMATA POWER BOARD. REPORT ON ORGANISATION. SALARIED BELOW AVERAGE. At to-day's meeting of the Auckland Power Board, a report was reevhed from Mr. A. J. Hutchinson, accountant, who had been instructed at the previous meeting of the board to report on the ad-quaey or otherwise of the whole of ! the office administration. Mr. Hutchin--•n- report stated, inter alia: — "1-—ln my opin;on the office is not over-staffed. "*2.— I am of opinion that it i* on th<-tt-hole well organised and efficienti\ con trolled, particularly so when it i- taken into consideration that the business iin a state of transition and rapid growth. "A careful investigation of the financial position with rpgard to office pre miscs and statf discloses the fact that i; is not an e\pensi\c ->r-.ranisation in consideration of the work that is being done, and the work that it is preparing to undertake without anv increase of .staff. •Personally. I am of the opinion #hat when the Devonport accounts arc taken over and the engineer's work starts, it will be necessary to have at least one more on the staff. There is no necessity for me to make any comment on the pay of any individual on the staff. I will, however, state that the secretary's salary is lower than that of smaller organisations of this kind in New Zealand, and that the general pay is certainly not above the average-, if anything, it is a little below." When the report was read. Mr. f-amont *aid that he did n"t pj-nf< •«» to ix» an accountant, hut the onlv comparison that the man in the street could take was with power boards of a similar nature. He quoted the Dannevirke. H.nwke's Bar. .mi Frankton ]>owcr boards, ami «aid that all of them were working with half of their staff. Another mem'vr *aid that it was 0 T •» question of a comparison with other !oard«. The conditions m'eht "se quit<» different. The point was that thev had had a report that the board's work was well organise.} and everybody wa» loH<r a full day's work. The report was adopted.
