FLOOD RESULTS.

Such extensive damage was caused to the Etheridge railway, extending from Almadcn, in the Cairns district, to Forsyth, a distance of 142 miles, bv the recent floods that the Minister of" Pailways is considering the advisabilitv of permanently closing the line. Inhabitants of the district are in an alarming condition owing to the shortage of ~food supplies, which the Railway Department is now sending Inroad. Coal Mine Ruined. As a result of heavy rains the Bellfield Coal Mine has been Hooded. Efforts to drain it were unsuccessful and the mine will probably not re-open.
