Samuel Gatfield Marshall (17), charged with converting a motor car owned by Doctor Patrick Mackin to his own use. was admitted to probation. Sub-Inspector Howev stated that Marshall was engaged by Mackin as chauffeur, and had commenced duties onlv yesterday morning. He took the car out, drove to Hutt with four companions, and last evening was arrested az Petone in charge of the car. The father of accused said his son had got out of hand, but he asked that he should be admitted to probation. "Misappropriation of motor cars is a serious matter," said the magistrate, Mr. J. H. Salmon, "and you are liable to a sentence of three months. As you are only 17i years of age and appear to have got into bad company, I shall adopt your father s suggestion and admit vou to probation for twelve months, on condition that you make good the damage to the car and also keep clear of these larrikin friends of touts."
