FAREWELL DANCE

PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. There was a record crowd present afc the Society of Arts Hall on Saturdaynight for the presentation of prizes won at the New Zealand swimming championships which concluded on Friday. The function took the form of a social tendered by the Auckland Centre. The hall was decorated with extreme taste and the colours of the various representative centres were arranged tno«st tastefullv.

>Ir. T. C. Ilobbs-Jones, chairman of the Auckland Centre, thauked the visitors for their co-operation in bringing about the remarksole success that had fcll'<\voil the championships. He congratulated the winners of the various titles and eulogised their sportsmanship.

Mr. W. E. D. Bishop, president of the Xew Zealand Council, said the visitor 3 had thoroughly enjoyed their star in Auckland, and would take away many pleasant memories of the efficient manner in which the Auckland Centre had handled the meeting. ]t had been the most successful gathering on record.

After the presentation of prizes dancing was commenced and was continued until midnight, supper being served during the evening. There was a gay scene at the statioji last night when most of the swimmers left for home. The local swimmers were present in force and gave the visitors a hearty send off. Miss Jepson (OtagoV, is remaining in Auckland for about two months. The Wellington and Canterbury teams will meet in Wellington to-' day for the annual contest for the Xordsa Cup. D. P. L/indsay (Canterbury), national champion over all distances from the 220 yards to the mile, will then proceed to Napier and Hastings to compete at meetings this week. While at Xapicr he will attack the 220 vards record.
