When plav in the riunket Shield match between Wellington and Canterbury was resumed yesterday the holders had made 48S runs in their first innings, i Canterbury batted yesterday and made 10". The sky was overcast, but nothing happened to impair the , wicket, which looked even faster than on Saturday, and the Canterbury batsmen had full opportunity to show whether they were capable of getting within striking distance of Wellington's big total of 4SB. Disaster, however, came early and except for Page and Patrick, the home batsmen were easily disposed of. Canterbury Easily Disposed Of. Woods and Crawford opened to the bowling of Badcock and McGirr. From the first ball Crawford scored a single, and Woods scored one off the third. Woods sent McGirr's first delivery to the leg boundary for four. McGirr was Worker's next partner,,but after taking a. long time to get half-a-dozen he was clean howled by Read. •Tames and Worker put on 59 for the next wicket, but then Worker was Ibw to Mcßeth. 152—0—70. The retiring batsman had given a far from impressive display. He had given three distinct chances. When Hollings and James got together they pave a display that impressed the critics, Hollings especially playing clianceless but aggressive cricket. James failed to get properly oil to a bull that he tried to lift into the out-field and was out. 194 —7 — 44. Badcock joined Hollings, but was not in his Saturday's form.
