DOMAIN T.B. SHELTERS.

HOT TO BE SHIFTED. MEN RESENT INTERFERENCE. The matter of the TJJ. shelters at the Domain was referred to at the meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board last evening, when the medical officer of health complained of their condition, stating that some of the timbers in the huts were rotten. "The board takes no responsibility for these shelters," declared the chairman (Mr. W. Wallace). "They were placed there in the first instance by the Defence • Department with the permission of the-City Council. Mrs. Emily Nicol lias been interviewing the men relative to her suggestion that they should go to Waitakere, where, she says, shelters might be erected for them. Well, the men don't want to be interfered with; they wish to be left alone. Last Sunday, I interviewed the men at the shelters, and every man expressed himself as quite satisfied. They resent any interference or any suggestion that they should be moved from where they are— some of-them refer to the interference in very strong language. It is not true that the City Council has been trying to ehift these men or wished to chase them away to somewhere else, and Mrs. Emily Nicol has been told so by the Mayor." Mrs. Kidd endorsed the remarks of the chairman. Mr. Coyle: But if anything needs to be done to these shelters, we ought to do it and then bill the Defence Department for the cost. The Chairman: The shelters are getting weather worn and will need replacing in time. Meanwhile we can see what needs' to be done.
