ECLIPSE OF THE SUN.
TAKES PLACE ON .JANTJARY 4. (By Telegraph—Special- to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. An eclipse! of the sun will be visible, in New Zealand on Tuesday. January 4. In the northern part of the Dominion, it will be seen as a complete annular eclipse, but the further south the observer is placed from Russell, the less of the sun will be seen obscured. The southern limit of the annular phase traces a curved line embracing Rrssell and the extreme point of East Cape. The Dominion.. Observatory reports that in Wellington the time of commencement will be' 5.34 a.m., the greatest phase being : reached at fi.34 and the end being-at 7,39. At the moment of th .c greatest phase .88 of the sun's disc will be obscures: At Russell the annular phase.will last;oiily,thirty seconds.
