ART SOCIETY'S HALL.
COSTING TOO MUCH MONET. PROPOSAL TO SELL. I As the Auckland Society of Arts is i losing money by owning the rather awkward building it inhabits in Kitchener Street, the members have decided to ask the trustees to sell out and invest the money to raise a fund to put up a more suitable building on a better site. This decision was come to at a meeting held last evening and attended by some forty people, Mr. A. S. Boyd, the president, being in the chair. Mr. Page Rowe moved that the trustees be asked to sell either by public auction or private treaty, at a price to be fixed, the proceeds to be invested in trustee securities. Mr. Boyd pointed out that last year the hall brought in £245, while the expenses were £247, and tha:t during the present year the loss was £01. The society could not'afford to keep the building going, and if it were now sold and the money properly invested, they would, in, say, five years, have a fund large enough to enable them to put up a permanent revenue-producing home. Mr. F. L. Moodie pointed out that the present building wanted reproofing, which would cost between £200 and £300, and there was no money for the work. After further discussion the motion was adopted by twenty-two votes to three.
