MANUREWA TOWN BOARD.

° The Manurewa Town Board met last evening, tiie chairman (Mr. A. C. A. Sexton) presiding. Mr. C. S. MeCallum was absent. Christinas Day Pictures. —Mr. O. A. Osborne's application fur permission to show motion pictures on Christmas night was granted, Mr. C. H. Lupton declining to vote on the matter. Marr's Ko;ul. Homai. —In response to a further application for dedication of this road, it was decided to grant dedication, but to withhold same pending the receipt of !_ sum of M. -27,, or the engineer's certificate that the necessary work has been done. Water Supply.—Mr. D. Uilberd waited on the board with a suggestion relating to a temporary water supply for the central and more congested area of the township. Dr. C. Campbell .lenkins. who was present, suggested the formation of a special rating area to carry out the scheme. After considerable deliberation, during which the question of developing the supply ia the Hill Road reserve was discussed at length, the engineer (Mr. W. .1. l.opdell) was deputed to confer with Mr. Gilberd on the matter, and report. Dr. Jenkins was also requested lo canvass the urea concerned, with a view to ascertaining Ihe feelings of the ratepayers in regard to the formation of a special rating area to cover v small loan. Great South Road.—Dr. Jenkins urged the board to consider tin: advisability of cutting down the hill at the corner in front of his residence, stating that the road -would bi'fomn increasingly dangerous with the advent, of concrete and Ihe consequent increased and faster traffic. The matter was left in the engineer's hands to furnish a report. Progress of Contract.—Mr. Fawcctt expressed dissatisfaction at the slow rate of progress in concreting the South Koad through the town district. Other members concurred in this view. The engineer slated that he understood that, difficulty had been experienced in obtaining a sufficient supply of metal for the work, but that this trouble had now been practically overcome. Detour Roads.—After considerable discussion on the extensive damage caused to Massey Road since the commencement of its use as a deviation route, it was decided to close this road between Halsey Road and ' Coriu Avenue. Dangerous Corner.—-Following on representations by Mr. G. Gallaher. it was decided to employ labour throughout the holiday period for the purpose of controlling traffic around the dangerous corner at the intersection of the Great South Road and Brown's Road. Railway Footpath.—The Railway Department v. rote stating that the path leading from Station Road to the railway station would be cleared to a greater width than at nresent. A letter of appreciation is to be sent, ami it was also decided to suggest that at a future date the tarring of the footpath would obviate the necessity of frequently clearing it. Power Hoard.—The clerk reported that the Auckland Electric Power Board had applied lor permission to use the Town Board office for the- purpose of receiving payment of accounts. His suggestion that a rental of £5 per annum be charged was approved. Mill's Bach.—ln a report of a previous meeting, relating to the erection of a bach in Dram's Koad. it was stated that Mr Gallaher voted against the proposal to grant a permit.
