BREACH OF FAITH.

I CHARGE AGAINST LABOUR. ; GOVERNMENT SURVIVES VOTE. I NARROW ESCAPE IN N.S.W. I —— (Bj- Cable.—Press Association. —Copyright.) SYDXEY, December 20. 1 When the State Parliament was 1 called together for the purpose of passing" Supply, Mr. T. R. Bavin took the ; first opportunity of testing the Govern- • ment on a no-confidence motion. j The Leader of the Opposition moved: j "That in view of the fact that four months' Supply has been granted under i a definite promise from the Premier : that Parliament would' be dissolved : within that period, the House regards the j action of the Government in calling ! members together as a grave breach of i faith, rendering the Government unI worthy of the confidence of members." ! Various speakers attacked the Gov- ! eminent, charging it with a breach of ! faith, and after a short debate the I motion was negatived by 46 votes to 42. Mr. P. F. Loughlin (HLabour), who i recently voted against the Government, again voted with the Opposition. Messrs. V. W. E. Goodin and R. T. Gillies, Government members, who also expressed opposition to the Government recently, ! to-day voted with the Government. I When the House went in Committee |of Supply, the Opposition commenced obstruction tactics, raising numerous ! points of order. I The Premier, Mr. J. T. Lang, resubi mitted the Budget proposals. He said that later a small tax on publications and limitations on the main roads grant would be submitted. ■ Mr. Bavin accused the Premier of securing the help of two men who had earned the contempt of every decent man in the community. He declared there was not a man in the House or the country who would accept the Premier's word about anything. The methods by which the Government had kept itself in office would disgrace any collection of cardsharpers. The debate on the Budget proposals was productive of some lively scenes. The debate was adjourned.
