REFORMATIVE TREATMENT.

YOUNG MAN DETAINED. (By Telegraph.— Special to " Star.-) DUNEDIN, this day. When David Maurice Morgan appeared before Mr. Justice Sim in the Supreme Court for sentence on a charge of carnal knowledge at Clydevale of a girl over 12 years and under 16 years, Mr. A. G. Neiil, on behalf of accused, said that, had it not been for the amending leoislation of }922, Morgan -would have had a good defence. Unfortunately, however, accused was just three months over 21 years of age at the time the offence was committed. The girl had said she was over 16, that being corroborated by accused's own statement to the police at the time of his arrest. Counsel drew the judge's attention to the depositions with regard to the character of the girl. They showed that she had been under the control of the industrial authorities for some years. Counsel submitted in view of the precociousness of the girl and in view of the fact that a defence would have been open to accused had he been three months younger that leniency should be extended. The Crown Prosecutor, Mr. F. B. Adams, said he had nothing to add to the police report, except to mention that the girl was a bad girl and had probably misled the accused with regard to her age, accused not being a man of strong character. His Honor said in view of the fact that accused had faded to comply with the terms of a probation order he would have to undergo a term of imprisonment. He would be sentenced to four years' reformative detention. ■==_=_==__===___= ,
