. • PRESENTATION; AT THE THAMES. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, this day. " At a function on Saturday evening, Deputy-Superintendent .T. Pratt was presented with the Gold Star on completing 2o years' volunteer service with the fire brigade. This coveted honour is now held by seven members of the brigade, with many more close to winning a similar honour. The presentation v. as made by Superintendent Garrett. The Mayor (Mr. T. \V. Rhodes. M.P.), also presented the borough medal which always accompanies the presentation of the fire brigade's star. Speaking on the matter, Mr. Rhodes said the brigade was purely volunteer and had never accepted one penny in payment for their arduous services. They held a record for New Zealand in unfailing attention to duty, resulting in Thames suffering no serious loss by lire. The secretary of the United Fire Brigades' Association (Mr. Watts . eulogised the services of the men of Thames, who had the right spirit, making the brigade one of the best in tha Dominion. He bad not visited Thames for several years inspecting, as there had been no need, the brigade being so efii* cient.
