With the arrival of about fifty horses from the south on Saturday, matters at Ellerslie are beginning to liven up, and when the fast work begins to-morrow it should be very interesting. This morning there was not a great deal doing, but Rapine and Mandane were noticed doing long, strong work on the sand. Count Cavour and other Cup candidates' were also given steady pace work. C. Browne will be riding at the Manawatu meeting. His mounts on the first day include Glen Innis, Bronstell, Wild Pigeon; Itilperdn, Truney, Outfit and Freßo. R.
