LOST OVERBOARD.
DISAPPEARANCE OF SEAMAN. WESTPORT. Sunday. A seaman Alexander KeiT Stewart, who joined the steamer Stroma at Dunston. England, was lost overboard l>etween New Plymouth and Westport some time yesterday morninj;. He went on duty at 1 a.m. as look-out. Another seaman on duty at 3 a.m. saw nothing of Stewart, and after some time, thinking that something was amiss, informed the r-hief officer, who at once informed the captain. The Ixr-at was stopped and went back to where the vessel had been at one o'clock when Stewart was on dutrv. However, no trace of him was found. Stewart could not swim. There was a lot of flotsam brought down xhe rivers by flood? on which he might have found support had he been able to swim.
