DEFEAT BY A POINT. GOOD GAME WITH YORKSHIRE. DUFTY'S KICKING FAILS. (By Cable.— l'ress Association. —Copyright.) (Keceived 11 a.m.) LONDON, December 15. At Huddersfield to-day the Yorkshire team defeated the Xew Zealand League team by 17 points to IC, three tries and four goals to four tries and two goals. Weakness in goal-kicking lost the New Zcalandcrs the game, especially in the second half when they showed vastly improved play. Yorkshire went off at a great pace and speedily scored through tries by Crowther, Gallagher and Horton, all of which Osborne goaled. The Blacks rallied, and Mason scored but Dufty failed to convert. Yorkshire was leading at the interval by 15 points to 3. Yorkshire opened the scoring in the second spell, Osborne goaling from a penalty kick. Thereafter the Blacks delighted the assembly of 3000 spectators by brilliant running and passing at top speed. Also the forwards began getting the ball in the scrums, enabling Hall and Delprosso to show their true form and to lead the Yorkshire halves, Parkin and Todd, a merry dance. The Yorkshire forwards entirely failed to hold the Xew Zealand pack. Brown, Davidson and Herring scored, Dufty converting twice. The visitors deserved additional tries In the closing stapes, but Osborne repeatedly saved the side, his displuv overshadowing Dufty's. The New Zealand three-quarters were magnificent, Brown and Davidson making thrilling runs. Sanders tackled most effectively. Mason and Avery were the pick of the forwards. The team was:—Dufty, Brown, Davidson, Brisbane, Sanders, Hall, Delgrosso, Menzies, Herring, Thomas, Parkes, Mason, Avery. GARDINER SUSPENDED. PARIS GAME CANCELLED. Gardiner has been suspended by the League for three matches for the St. Helens offence, when he struck a touch judge. • The Rugby League Council is not arranging matches for the New Zealanders in Paris, London, Belfast or South Wales, owing to injuries and illness of some of the visitors.
