WHANGAREI HARBOUR BOARD.
TWO TENDERS ACCEPTED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. Tenders for the supply of coal to the Whangarei Harbour Board were considered yesterday afternoon. A. R. ; Crane offered to sell coal to the local body for £1 1/ per ton on the railway trucks or motor lorries at Ruatangata,; or deliver at the Town wharf for £1 6/9 per ton, the price delivered being lower than other firms' offers per ton at Hikurangi railway station. In reply to a query whether Kamo coal was ail right, the chairman, Mr. J. A. Finlayson, said he had ascertained that 50 tons a week were supplied to the railways to report upon. " It was stated that! it was of the best quality available. The lowest tender was accepted. Five tenders were received for stopbank formation at Kioreroa, which is necessary to prevent spoil pumped ashore by dredges from spreading too fai across the extensive mud flats, which are being reclaimed. Tendering was very keen, and the offer of Stephen Paton at £101 5/ was accepted. Decision was reached after discussion, as one tender at £100 was submitted.
