NEW HOPE FOR THE BLIND. S

ULTRA-VIOLET RAY TREATMENT. An important experiment has just been successfully concluded at Moorflelds, City Road, London, the biggest eye hospital in the Empire. A year ago a tiny mercury vapour lamp was installed and a clinic opened for treating patiente suffering from blindness by ultra-violet rays. Since then 100 patients have been treated, and the efficiency of the rays for this purpose, it is claimed, has proved. The surgeons, cays Mr. A. J. M. Tarrant, secretary of the hospital, had a tremendous tack before them to find out how the ray would affect such a delicate organ as the eye, but after months of c-areful practice and observation they have succeeded in restoring sight to diseased eyes, and by standardising the method of treatment they have literally brought sunshine into a world of darkness for many, and have opened up the way for a new attack on blindness.
