A merger of the fleets of passenger and cargo steamships of the Admiral Oriental Line and the Dollar Steamship Line.with operation of the fleet of nine vessels in a horseshoe route between Seattle and. San Francisco and ports in japan, China, Philippines and Hawaii, has been approved by the United States Shipping Board, which considered a joint application of the two steamship lines for permission to change the routing of the two fleets, which now operate independently of each other from Seattle and San Francisco to Oriental ports. Under the new arrangements, which will probably go into effect about January 1, there will be a trans-Pacific sailing of one of these liners every two weeks from Seattle and every two weeks from San Francisco. UNION COMPANY'S STEAMERS. Movements of steamers under the flag of the Lnion Company are announced as follow:— The Kaitangnta was expectea to leave Greymouth last evening for Napier and Auckland. The Kurow was to leave Dunedin this afternoon for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington and Auckland. s««i. The Kalkot-ai is to leave Napier at 6 p m to-day for Auckland. On arrival on Monday she will berth at the King's wharf Hence she proceeds to Westport. The Kaimanawa is expected to complete loading at Westport on Monday next, for Gisborne and Auckland. The Richardson steamer Puttki was to j leave Portland to-day for Gisborne. j J The steamer Rangitoto 1b to make a trip to Surfdale to-morrow, sailing at 10 a.m. The Northern Co.'s steamer Waipu It to reeommlsslon on Monday, being timed to sail for the Hauraki Plains at 1 p.m. The Northern Co. advise that the Motu is to sail for Whakatane at 4 p.m. on Monday. The departure of the Otimai for Opotiki and kutarere has been postponed untU 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Cargo will not be received for tlie last named vessel before Monday afternoon. The Richardson steamer Awahou is ; expected to arrive to-morrow from East j Coast. She will berth at the King's I wharf. Messrs. Watkin and Wallis advise j that she will sail on her return trip on i Tuesday evening. THE HINEMOA SAILED. A departure from Auckland shortly after midday to-day was the Government j steamer Hlnemoa for Norfolk Island, with passengers and cargo. She is due back on November 28. THE RUAHINE. Now loading at South Island ports, the New Zealand Shipping Co.'s steamer Ruahine is advertised to sail finally from Wellington on December 3 for Southampton and London, via Panama, taking passengers, mail and cargo. THE X.M.S. TAHITI. An expected arrival at Wellington on Monday morning is the Union Co.'s R.M.s. Tahiti, from San Francisco, via Papeete and Rarotonga. She IsUo land passengers, mail and cargo at Wellington before resuming her voyage to Sydney on Tuesday. THE WEST HENSHAW. In continuation of her voyage from Pacific Coast ports, the American steamer West Henshaw, which is unloading the local portion of her cargo at the Central wharf, is to sail at 5 p.m. on Tuesday for Napier, Lyttelton and Dunedin. TREGENNA ARRIVED. After being delayed for twelve hours owing to stormy weather, the Ham Line steamer Tregenna arrived at Auckland from New York this afternoon. As soon as pratique was granted, she berthed at the Prince's wharf. The New Zealand Shipping Company are the local agents. THE THALATTA. From Scandinavian and South African ports, via Melbourne and Sydney, tbe Norwegian motor ship Thalatta, 5670 tons, was expected to reach Dunedin to-day. The vessel will later come to Auckland, via Nel6on and Wellington, to complete discharge. THE TUG KAHANUI. Continuing her voyage to New Zealand. Wanganui Harbour Board's new tug Kahanui left Holyhead on Thursday. A vessel of 207 tons, the Kahanui was built by the Dublin Dockyard Co. She is a very up-to-date vessel, being fitted with wireless, searchlights, and a Are extinguishing apparatus. THE CANADIAN PLANTER. Information has been received by the local office of the Canadian Government Marine that the steamer Canadian Planter, which is scheduled to leave Halifax for New Zealand on December 24, will discharge cargo at Bluff, In addition to her nsual ports. She is due to reach Auckland about February 3. NEW STEAMER WAIPIATA. Teleegraphlc advice reports the departure from Wellington, at 4 p.m. yesterday, of the Union Company's new steamer Walplata, for Auckland. On arrival to-morrow evening or Monday morning she Will berth at the Prince's wharf. Ths Walpiata Is expected td sail on her return trip to Southern ports about Thursday next. MAUNGANTJI LEFT SYDNEY. A cablegram from Sydney reports the departure from that port at 8 o'clock yesterday afternoon of the Union Co.'s steamer Maunganui for Auckland. She is due here on Tuesday morning, and 1b to sail at 3 p.m. on Friday on her return trip. The I Maunganui has been granted a berth at the Queen's wharf. THE POET SYDNEY. According to her wireless report, the Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Sydney will arrive at Auckland from New York on Thursday of next week. Her case oil and general cargo will be unloaded at Auckland, Napier*. Wellington, Lyttelton. Dunedin and Bluff, The Farmers' Cooperative Auctioneering Co. are the local agents. THE COLAC REPORTS. Bringing general cargo from East Canadian ports for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin, the N.Z. Shipping Co.'s chartered steamer Colac has reported by wireless 'that sh» expects to reach this port on Tuelday or Wednesday of next week. She will berth at the King's wharf. THE B.M.M.S. AORANGI. The Union CO.'s R.M.m.s. Aorangi left Sydney for Auckland, en route to Vancouver, at 4 p.m. yesterday, according to a cablegram received by the local office of the company. The Aorangi is due on Tuesday morning. After medical inspection in the stream She will berth at the Queen's wharf. She is to resume her voyage across the Pacific at 4 p.m. the same day. SHOAL GROUND OPS' CAP'S FOULWIND. Captain A. S. Dalgleish, master of the Kaiapol, reports having obtained a sounding of 11 fathoms fine sand with a sprinkling of shell when making Westport from the westward in thick weather on October 29. The position of shoal sounding is given by Captain Dalgleish as Cape Foulwlnd I lighthouse, bearing south 80 degrees east, magnetic, distant 16 miles. Captain Dalgleish further reports having obtained a least sounding (if 18 fathoms, showing a bottom of similar nature with Cape Foulwind lighthouse bearing east * north, magnetic, distant 16 miles.
