TAKAPUNA'S WATER SUPPLY.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Considerable misunderstanding appears to exist in regard to the attitude of the Takapuna Borough Council in respect to the water supply. The council is blamed for inadequate water i mains in various streets and a coneei quent shortage of water at fires. The ! small water mains existing in some of ! the to-day were not laid down I during the present council's term of ! office. Further, the control of the water supply for Takapuna has been taken out of my council's hands by Act of Parliament The North Shore Water Board is • at present coneidering the obtaining of a water supply from the Wakakeres, and !my council can only await any action that may be taken by this board. They are also awaiting the result of the Royal I Commission which is being set up to consider the supply of water to the j whole of Auckland and its environs. The council regret, therefore, that they are quite unable to take any action in the meantime.—l am, etc., J. D. MORISON, Mayor""
