TAKAPUNA'S NEEDS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I should like to heartily endorse every word written by your correspondent in last night's paper on our lack of water for fire fighting in Takapuna. On two occasions lately I have watched our firemen (a fine efficient body of men) gamely fighting a hopelags battle against the fire king with a trickle of water that would be futile in a garden hose. Our council seems to have "run amok" lately over the transit problem, to the exclusion of everything else. Why a district like this, with a small population and three traffic outlets should have to worry about monopolies and peak loads is really very puzzling. I do wish they would, for a change, indulge in a little common sense. Takapuna's most pressing needs are pure I water and plenty of it, sewerage and storm water drainage, dry footpaths and level ones, and more care to our great assets, our beaches. Milford beach, from Ocean View to Tiri Road is ruined by the sand poachers. Four firms take 40 loads a day from this area, and the lower part of Tiri Road is used as a sand dump. Our make-shift sewerage outlet at Black Rock cannot be called a success, and there are persistent rumours that the sewage is coming back on to the beaches. That sanity may speedily return to the deliberations of our council is the earnest wish of ev.erv thoughtful resident.—l am. etc., RATEPAYER.
