Donovan has returned from his trip to Australia, and has resumed charge of Mrs. Perry's team. The two-year-old Carinthia went nicely in a gallop at Ellerslie this morning. He is by Lucullus from Minsk, and though he has not run into a place this season he has some pace. Archibald seems to have gone on the right way since the Auckland spring meeting, and he appears to be in good heart at present. He is among those engaged at the Takapuna meeting next Saturday. The Antagonist mare rivalry is on the easy list at present. There was some talk of her racing career being closed but she will probably be tried again for a few months before she is retired to the stud next season. Among those engaged in the Takapuna Plate next Saturday is Jemidar. the three-year-old half brother to Inferno by Martian. Jemidar, who is owned by Riddiford, has yet to break his maiden status. As a two-year-old he started on three occasions without getting into the money, and has a similar record this season. Standfast, who is engaged in the Cambria Handicap, to be run at the Takapuna meeting on Saturday, is a gelding by Valkyrian from Unity, and therefore, a half brother to Te Monanui. He was among those that started in the two-year-old parade at the Pakuranga meeting, but otherwise has yet to race in public. At Trentham on Thursday morning on the tan Indian Sage galloped seven furlongs in 1.32, No Favours and Matu taking a second longer. Vexatious and Kilmezzo sprinted six furlongs in 1.19. Half miles were run by Theodolite and Humoresque 50s and Royal Pointer and Tannadice ils. Modern sprinted down the straight with Frenzied Finance, Ardfinnan and Cerf going down the back where Orchid also worked over three furlongs. A good field is engaged in the two-year-old race, the Cambria Handicap,, at the Takapuna meeting. High Finance lias won once, while she has been placed on another two occasions. Chips has a couple of wins to her credit, while TiTree has had a win and been placed in three other races. Auriculus has notched a couple of seconds, while Exalted has been placed on two occasions. This Is sufficient to make the event an interesting one. The property at Yaldhurst, "Irvington Lodge," containing over 115 acres, together with all the buildings and improvements, the property of Mr. Ben Jarden, has been purchased by Mr. Robert Grant, of Belfast. The purchaser and Mr. M. B. Edwards will occupy th» property. This establishment was formerly owned by the late Mr. G. G. Stead, and Mr. R. J. Mason, and will continue to be used as a training establishment. The price realised was in the vicinity of £10,000. A great feature of the programme at Riccarton was the cutting out of the races down the sprint course as far as possible. The races for two-year-olds were unavoidably confined to sprints, but there were only two races run down the six furlong track, and they were the Stewards' Handicap on the opening day and the Cressy Handicap on the concluding day. The result was a particularly well-balanced programme which gave the public a much better view of the racing. Hacks were made to run at least seven furlongs, yet the fields were large enough for excellent contests. Concluding events were run over nine, eight, seven and ten furlongs respectively, a welcome change from the five furlong scurry on some programmes. The example of the Canterbury Jockey Club in this respect, says the Wellington writer, "The Watcher," is earnestly commended to the stewards of the Wellington Racing Club when framing their future programmes. Although Limerick only arrived home on Wednesday (says a Southern writer), he was wonderfully fresh when inspected in his yard this morning. He has* not developed at all during his trip to the Commonwealth, but he has grown up a little. His conformation does not allow for much improvement in this direction. Both front feet show distinct signs of the trouble that affected him during the campaign. They have been cut away a good deal, and the heels are much enlarged. But he appears to be sound. It is easy to understand the anxiety he caused his trainer, and it is surprising how Limerick raced as well as he did. He is to enjoy a holiday until he quite recovers, and will not be seen out at the Auckland meeting. In fact, he may not be seen under silk until late in the autumn. This will depend entirely on how he progresses. However, F. D. Jones has signified his intention of paying another visit to Australia next spring, provided everything goes on all right in the interval.

On the second day of the Waikato Racing Club's meeting Serang got galloped ou, and in consequence has had to be eased in his work. Town Bank is apparently all right again, for he strode over six furlongs at Ellerslie this morning in good style. He is engaged in the Alison Cup next Saturday at the Takapuna meeting. A couple of Cutts Brothers' two-year-olds, Skyquest (Autumnus— Telescope) and Sudden Storm (Autumnus-Helter Skelter), have been recommissioned after a spell and they will be got ready to race in the autumn. Only three of those entered for the Alison Cup at Takapuna next Saturday failed to accept. They were Eden Hall, Aurumavis and Wenday. J. T. Jamieson, who trains Eden Hall, has a couple left in Nippy and Spoony. The Takapuna Plate should result in a good race, for there are quite a number of good hacks engaged. Among the most prominent are Ned Kelly, Delightment, F.uffles, Te Koroke. Joy Germ,, Newbury, Tinokoa, True Blood, and Valkon. Prior to racing Thormond served a few mares, and the first of his foals has put in an appearance at Foxton, where Innoladdo had foaled a fine big black filly to Messrs. Dwan Brothers' horse. -Thomond is doing a light season again this year. The three-year-old Record Trip, by The Ace from Sailor's Hope, was gelded recently and he has been sent home to Stonyhurst, where he will be used as a hack" for a few months. So far he has shown very little speed but with age he may develop into a useful sort; capable of running out a journey. The blockage of the railway in the Manawatu Gorge Is causing trainers some concern, as with the approach of the Levin, Ashhurst, and Feilding meetings, followed by Woodville, on the other side, arrangements will have to be made to bridge the section out of commission. Probably the horses will have to be walked through the gorge The weather was fine for training work at Ellerslie this morning, and No. 2 grass track was used for galloping. King Emerald went six furlongs, but was not after time. Segment and Restaurant ran half a mile in 545, and Baby Bun went six furlongs in 1.27. Arch Arrow got to the end of a similar distance in 1.22 4-5. Ringa Manga beat Sir Gilbert by several length* over a round in 1.54. Danae was in front of Queen Eewa and Sandbag at the end of half a mile in 52 3-ss. Boomerday and Right and Left ran a round in 1.49 2-5. Tall Timber and Gold Fern were about on terms at the finish of six furlongs in 1.25. Merry Damon pleased better than Nassock at the finish of five furlongs in 1.10 4-5. White Bird got to the end of six furlongs in 1.24 3-5. Maveelish and Judge's Box ran five furlongs in 1.6. Fair Abbey did a round in 1.54, Master Doon was better than Kamehameha over a similar distance in 1.50 3-5. War Officer and Star Comet ran six furlongs in 1.21. Aurumavis beat Prince Abbey and King Selwyn over five furlongs in 1.5. Scot Free and Sea Comet ran a round in 1.50 2-5. Town Bank was better than Muscari, Rahepoto and Uralla at the end of six furlongs which took him 1.19. Corinax and Charis ran five furlongs in 1.8 and Newbury covered a similar distance easily in 1.11 3-5. Carinthia beat Golden Wedding at the end of four furlongs in 52 l-ss. Charlady ran five furlongs in 1.11 and Royalform a round in 1.52. Archibald, King Merv and Passionate went six furlongs in 1.20. Master Mind beat the Nassau—Mountain Dream filly over four furlongs In 535. Lord Bruce ran six furlongs in 1.21 3-5, and Schorr beat Daybell over a round in 1.50. After breakfast Chainour and Lomint, separ-! ately, did strong work, but were not extended. . ancy Lee sprinted four furlongs in 53 1-os. Mrss Astron was a shade better than Blue Sky over five furlongs in 1.9 2-5. Moeaic finished in front of Princess Ronnie over a round in 1.44 3-5, which was the best of the morning over this dastance. Namutere sprinted, taking 40s for the last three furlongs. Thursby worked steadily, and then sprinted half a mile in 565.
