AN AUDACIOUS THIEF.

GREY LYNN GROCER ROBBED. SUDDEN NIGHT ATTACK. An audacious assault and robbery was perpetrated at Grey Lynn last night, the victim being Mr. Alfred Bryan, a storekeeper, of Dryden Street. Mr. Bryan had closed his shop at a o'clock, and shortly afterwards was walking along Allan Street, carrying his day's cash takings in a biief bag, when a stranger suddenly sprang upon him, knocked him down, and decamped with the bag. The attack was so swift that Mr. Bryan could not identify his assailant, but it is thought that it was someone conversant with his movements and who knew that at that hour on Friday night he would be on his way to his home in Richmond Avenue, where Mr. Bryan also has a store, taking with him the cash from the Dryden Street, shop. The robber got away with money estimated to be between £10 and £12. Information was immediately given to the police, who are investigating the matter.
