ACTIVITY AT FEIEDING. EXPERIMENTAL PIG FARM. A meeting of various representatives of district farming interests was held at Feilding on Friday to consider and place before the visiting members of the New Zealand Meat Control Board a proposal for the establishment in Feilding of an experimental farm. The following proposals were put before the meeting: To take six pigs, of any cross and similar weight and type, to be fed on buttermilk and different concentrated foods, as the committea decide; that a correct record of weight and cost and the amount of buttermilk and concentrated foods as used should be taken and kept for each, and separate trials from time to time decided; breeding from cross to be tried out as from Berkshire sows crossed with a Tamworth and Large White boar respectively, and similarly six Tamworth sows be crossed with a Berkshire and Large White boar; that the progeny from these purebred crosses be fattened and tested out on buttermilk and concentrated foods as already mentioned; other experiments and tests to be tried out as the committee appointed may be guided; to ask the board if they may desire to subsidise such scheme or prefer to take over the whole expense of same; that should the Meat Control Board desire any special experiment to be carried out, and should such experiment be beyond the financial power and estimate as will be placed before the board for carrying out of same and others already proposed, the committee will ask the board to consider such extra cost for the experiment they wish. Mr. Jones, M.P., one of the visiting members, said that although he would not make any definite statement before the matter came before the board, he assured the meeting that the scheme would receive a favourable consideration at the board meeting on December 2.
