N.Z. LEAGUE TEAM.

THE FIFTH LOSS. BEATEN BY ST. HELENS. LONDON, October 30. The New Zealand Kugby League footballers were defeated to-day by St. Helens by 28 points to 14. - The visitors' team was: Gregory, T3rown, Cole, Brisbane, Sanders, Delgrosso, Hall, Herring, Parkes, Mason, Avery, Gardiner and Thomas. St. Helens placed a weakened team in the field, because four men were playing a county match, but t'aey fully deserved their victory. It was a strenuous game throughout. Although St. Helens were much the lighter side they were quicker on the ball and often had tie visitors guessing. The New Zealanders , persistent tackling, however, kept the score down. The passing on both sides was noteworthy. St. Helens' left wing was outstanding. The visitors drew first blood, Sanders scoring a gift try in the first few minutes. This was their only score in the first spell, waile their opponents put on nine points. I McComas forced an opening and drop- ! ped a goal. Grundy secured a goal [ from a free kick and Wilson notched a j try which Grundy converted. The New Zealanders started much more brightly in the second spell, but they fell away before St. Helens' persistent lightning attacks. Most of the scoring occurred in the closing stages of tae game. Mason, Avery and Sanders secured tries for Xew Zealand, Gregory converting one. Dolan, Smith, Halton, Bailey and Pike crossed the line for the Lancashire men, Grundy adding goals to two of the tries. THE TEAM'S TROUBLES. TOO MUCH ECONOMY. j LONDON, October 30. J The trouble which is reported to have taken place among the New Zealand League football team is stated to be due to half a dozen of the players insisting there should be a more impartial selection of the team. Objections were also made to what is considered too much economy on the part of the management in sending only the bare team and emergencies to wherever a match is being played, leaving the remainder behind at headquarters. One of the chief faults in the play of the team has been faulty hooking, and it is significant that in the mate'i against Leeds on Wednesday, two backs played in the pack. Parkes, selected jas wing three-quarter, played as hooker, and Gardiner, also a wing three-quarter, was in the back row of the scrum. MATTER OF ALLOWANCES. (Received 11 a.m.) LONDON, October 31. The manager of the >Tew Zealand League team (.Mr. E. H. Mair), interviewed, admitted there had been a little bit of trouble with four men, but the matter was now adjusted. It is understood the disagreement arose over the question of allowances.
