RAILWAY BOARDS.
FOR THE FOUR CENTRES. DEVELOP.MEKT OF POLICY. (By Telegraph—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. The Kight Hon. the Prime Minister (Mr. -J. G. Coates), before going Home prepared a scheme of district advisory boards in the four centres, as an extension of the Dominion railway policy. The appointment of committees at other important towns, to work in conjunction with these boards, is also suggested, to function in the same way on local matters. The boards will deal with transportation problems generally. Business agents and other selected railway officers will attend meetings and give information. The conclusion of the boards are to be placed before the department through the divisional superintendent and the commercial manager of railways. It is suggested the boards should consist of representatives of various interests and public bodies, and that their work should be voluntary, the secretarial duties to be in the hands of the secretary of the Chamber of Commerce in each of the four centres.
Amjng matters that will be considered by the district boards are:— Estimating probable demands for wagons, regulating the dispatch of consignments, speeding up loading, the clearance of inward, goods from railway sheds, arranging preference to urgent traffic, dispatching goods to railway sheds during the day, organising and regulating the dispatch of live stock, farm produce and farmers' requisites, co-ordinating the department's efforts with the requirements of the user and generally to assist transportation by cooperative organisation
