ROYAL CARNIVAL WEEK.

THINGS PROGRESSING WELZ., DECORATING AUCKLAND CITY. A meeting or tlie Koyal, Show Carnival Week Committee was held this morning, Mr. Donaldson, Mayor of Newmarket, presiding in the unavoidable absence of Mr. H. IDearsley.

Reports from the various sub-commit-teee dealing with many phases of Carnival Week were of a most favourable nature. There were now over 400 signed entries for the shop window display of New Zealand-made goods competition, and more were arriving by each mail. Included in the entries already received were those from 65 grocers, 57 confectioners, 50 drapers, 43 fruiterers, 21 bakers and pastrycooks, 21 chemiste, 10 furnishers and 10 tobacconists.

As the warships Dunedin and Diomede will not be in port during show week, it was decided to approach the Defence authorities with a request that the fort 9 be allowed to give a searchlight display.

It was announced that it had been decided to carry out the girls' interhouse sports programme in front of the main stand at Epsom.

Over 60 primary schools in the Auckland district have been communicated with, pointing out the railway facilities in connection with the Royal Carnival Week and Show. It was decided to get in touch with the secondary and technical echools, informing them of the arrangements made to bring scholars to Auckland.

It was reported that Newmarket's effort to make the carnival a success was meeting with much support from the business section of the community. Dcvonpprt was also to the fore and had arranged for a carnival within a carnival.

In addition to shop window displays the various streets of the city and suburbs will be decorated and lighted. Band performances will be held in different parts each evening and a huge fireworks display is being arranged for. Letters received from the Auckland Electric Power Board, Devonport FernCompany, and Auckland Harbout- Board were to the effect that those bodies would give every co-operation.
