BAY OF PLENTY BOARD. TENDERS ACCEPTED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

Important steps in the advancement of the Bay of Plenty were taken at the Power Board's meeting held here yesterday. The chairman (Mr. H. R. Hogg) presided, other members present being the Hon. J. B. Gow, Mr. G. Moody (Mayor), Messrs. Fleming and Gordon (Opotiki), Hewitt (Waimana), Burt (Matata), McCracken (Whakatane); also, Messrs. Vickerman (engineer, of Auckland), Murray (solicitor) and Hathaway (secretary).

The board approved of the action of the committee in purchasing a building and land from the Farmers , Trading Company for £2500.

It was resolved that the power agreement with the Government be executed and the board's seal attached.

It was also resolved that the agreement with Messrs. Vickerman and Lancaster as engineers to the board be executed and the seal attached.

Tenders were received from G. E. Collins, A. J. Redpath and the National Electric Company for the supply of ironbark and steel poles. A lengthy discussion arose as to what class of poles best suited the board's requirements. The engineer stated that the board would save about £600 annually by using concrete poles. The Hon. J. B. Gow was of the opinion that concrete poles were best, while Mr. Moody stated the concrete poles would provide work locally and keep the money in the district. Finally it was resolved to use concrete poles wherever possible. The following tendered for the supply of 709 tons of steel: John Bums, £8730; Niven and Co., £9209; Maxwell, £9341Cory Wright, £9969; Landnith, £10,015; Duffy and Bridgson, £10,077. Messrs. Burns' tender was accepted. The following tendered for the supply of approximately 750 tons of cement delivered at Whakatane or OpotikiWilsons, £6 7/; Duthy, £6 3/; N.Z. Loan and Mercantile, £6 1/6, reducible to £5 18/6 for 120-ton lots. The Loan Company's tender was accepted. • Authority was given the engineer to arrange for the necessary plant and to decide on sites for works.
