LYTTELTON WATERSIDE.
SATURDAY AFTERNOON WORK.
PRESSURE ON THE UNION. PLAIN HINT FROM FEDERATION. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The refusal of the Lyttelton watersiders to work on Saturday afternoons has been the cause of much friction at the port, and consequently, a rumour circulated yesterday that they would work on Saturday afternoons in future, if required, caused much interest.
It is reported that pressure was brought to bear by the federation's representative, who intimated to the dissentient unions that they must either abide by the agreement that had been signed on behalf of all the- waterfront unions in ]\ew Zealand, providing for work on Saturday afternoons, or seperate from the federation.
It is also stated that the local executive of the union has advised the men to resume work on Saturday afternoons.
The Lyttelton watorsiders have been experiencing a very slack time recently, and many families are feeling the pinch.
