PAPATOETOE DEBATING SOCIETY.
The 2Sth annual meeting of the Papatoetoe Literary and Debating Society was held on Tuesday. Mr. H. P. Andrew (president) occupied the chair, and there were 72 members present. Officers were elected as follow :—Patrons, Mr. E. D. McLennan, M.P., and Sir Frederic Lang; president, Mr. F. E. Carr: vice-presidents. Dr. A. B. Jameson and Mr. Eric Franklin; secretary, Miss Muriel Morey ; treasurer, Mr. W. Cutforth; auditor, Mr. Q. Haddock; general committee. Misses Marjorie Taylor, D. Bryant,- Sutton, Peacocke and Carruth, Mrs. H Baildon, Rev. T. H. Roseveare, Messrs. H. P. Andrew, A. W. Hall. W. Nesbitt, C. F. Partridge, S. Mellsop, W. Wotherspoon and F. H. Leonard.
A brief programme of entertainment was given during the evening: Misses M. and R. Wotherspoon (pianoforte duet). Miss Ruby Wallace ("The Wedding Present", Rev. T. H. Roseveare (vocal solo), Master Willie Anderson (recitation). A novelty competition, conducted by Mr. Carr, was won by Miss Wills.
