EDUCATIONAL MATTERS.
A meeting of the Auckland Education Board was held yesterday the chairman (Mr. A. Burns) presiding. Condolence.—The chairman referred to the recent death of Sir Arthur Myers, and said that the deceased gentlema_n had been generous in regard to education. He established the Myers Kindergarten and gave a site for the Thames Technical School. It was decided to send a letter of condolence to the relatives.
School Sewing Machines.—The Education Department advised that subsidies -would be payable on contributions of sewing machines in schools. School Text Books.—The Education .Department stated that as it hud been found impossible to prepare for use next year a complete series of new text books for certain subjects, no change wonld be made in the list of text books now authorised for use in primary schools. Organ Recitals. —The Auckland Headmasters' Association wrote expressing the opinion that it was now too late in the year to arrange for the holding of organ recitals for school children. A Ruawai Request.—The senior inspector reported adversely on a request that a district high school should be established at Ruawai, Northern Wairoa. The following appointments have been authorised:— Head Teacher. — Miss A. G. Bartlett, Kama.
Sole Teachers. —Mr. W. A. T. Underwood, Tangiteroria; Miss D. H. Whiting. Weymouth ; Miss R. Levien, Pungaere: Mr. M. McGrath, Aria; Miss J. McDougall, Te Toro. Assistant Masters.—Mr. P. R. Hunt, Curran Street: Mr. C. R. Laws, Takapuna. Infant Mistresses.—Miss C M. Sinclair. Kihikihi; Miss M N. Raley, Netherton. Assistant.—Miss E. M- McMiken, Fairfield.
