UNITED PENMANENT building and ■NVISTMSNT society. Tfie annual meeting pf members or the United. Permanent Building and investment Society was held totday in the Chamber or Commerce rooms. There was a good attendance, and M r -' P-Pbert Weill, chairman or directors presided. The report and balancesheet, wh lc h have already been summarised in these "columns, were adopted. The chairman congratulated the members on the success or the year's operations. The capital or the company had been substantially Increased during the year. Xo less than £7000 or shares" bad been sold at a premium. The wofklm charges had been kept extremely low. The dividend of 7J per cent per annum as recommended by the directors was confirmed, and "£llsO was transferred, to reserves. Thp retiring directors, Messrs, Samuel VVtrig and George Cozens were re-elected. Mr. *fhapthan suggested* that to nx 5 per cent or tht reserve fund as the bas|s or remunerating directors /ould be a wise move, as they would then be interested In having as largo a reserve as possible. On this basis £375 would be paid at prespnt. A resolution flxipg this amount ror tpe present year was agreed to." Messrs. \V. J. Thompson and A. M. Seaman were re-appointed auditors.
