£1000 PRIZE WINNER.

» MRS. H. WALSH, ERANKTON. CASE OF MISTAKEN IDENTITY. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. The winner of one of the £1000 prizes in the Golden Treasure Art Union is Mrs. Walsh, wife of Mr. Herbert Walsh, stock drover, of Norton Road, Frankton Junction, not Mr. H. Welch, of Hamilton, as had been stated. Apparently the similarity in the sound of the names led to it being supposed that the latter was the winner, especially as he held several tickets, and he was the recipient of numerous congratulations from his friends. However, he takes his disappointment philosophically, saying that at all events, he has had the pleasure of anticipation. Mr. Walsh is at present away from home on a long droving job, and it is not yet known whether he is aware of his wife's good fortune. They have had a good deal of hard fortune of late, and the news of the winning of so substantial a prize will therefore be very welcome to them.
