■ ■ LADIES - NIGHT. The Auckland Orphans" Cub completed its ;-t.jth with tlie annual ••ladies' night." at the Scots Hall, Symonds Street, on Saturday evening. In extending a cordial welcome to the guests, the president. Mr. William Wallace, said that the club had been started by a dozen enthusiasts, and had steadily grown to its present extensive membership, with off-shoots in the shape ol similar clubs all over the Dominion. That evening the Devonport. Onehunga. Otahuhu, Takapuna. and Papakura Orphans' Clubs were officially represented. The most cordial relations existed with the Auckland Savage Club, which was represented by Messrs. H. McCoy (rangatira) and Rr. Lusher (heketere. The programme was ffreatly enjoyed. The orchestra, under Mr. G. F. Carter, played the overture. "Martial Moments," and the selection ""Belle of New Xurk," which proved very popular items. Songs were contributed by Messrs. Stan. Prirchard. Chas. Hunter. W. Brough, H. Richards, and G. W. Desmond : humorous items by Messrs. A. McElwain. J. Finlayson and H. Warburton; clarinet solos by Mr. C. S. Lewis; and vocal quartets by the Lyric Four (Messrs. A. Ripley H. Richards, A. McElwain, and E. Thomas'). The accompanists were Messrs. Cyril Towsey and T. Sparling. BIRKENHEAD ORPHANS. The Birkenhead and Northcote Orphans' Club held their third annual meetin? ou Saturday evening. The president. Mr. W. J. Wernham reviewed tbe year's work, statin? that the membership had been maintained. Appreciative references were made to the services of Mr. H. Mayo as conductor of the orchestra, and he was presented with the club's gold badge. The election of officers resulted :—President. Mr. T. H. D. Boles; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. W. Lethbridge.
