THE SIXTH WIN. DEFEAT OF YORK. iKeeeived 12 noon.) LOXDOX, October 6. The New Zealand League team defeated York to-day by 19 points to 11. The York side last season was well up in the list of winning teams in the final table, and in reviewing the prospects of the various teams ior the present season the "Athletic News" stated that York would be found about the same standard as last year. The record of the New Zealanders to date gives them six victories and two losses out of the eight matches played, the defeats being suffered against Halifax and in the first Test. HOW THEY WON. GARDINER'S BRILLIANT KICKING. ißeceired 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, October C. The New Zealand team comprised: — Gregory, Parkes, Kinvan. Sanders, Gardiner. Webb, Hall, Carroll, Herring, Henry, Thomas. Peterson and Avery. This showed six changes from the Test thirteen. Xew Zealand's score was five goals and three tries against York's one goal and three tries. The great feature of the game was Gardiner's brilliant kicking. He had only five shots and all were successful. Peterson scored a try in the first half and New Zealand had a single point lead fifteen minutes before time. York was proving a stubborn side and it was only the visitors' superior staying powers, and rather superior football. that gave them tae upper hand. York bejran to tire and Kirwan scored a great try. This practically settled the result, but Gardiner added a further try. York had the advantage in" most scrummages, but the visitors -were superior in the loose. York failed to throw the ball about sufficiently, thoug'n they tackled well. The best of the visitors vere Gregory, Webb. Avery, and Henry. The last-named i« an oid York forward.
