TE PAPAPA DRAINAGE.
Satisfactory progress is being made with the new drainage works at Te Papapa. There is a tremendous amount of rock in places. For instance, the main sewer is laid at a depth of 16ft from the surface in the vicinity of Church and Grotto Streets, and the workmen have had to blast the solid rock right down to the bottom to get a bed for the sewer. ■ The whole of the Te Papapa area will be drained by gravitation. Provision was made in the plans for two electric pumps to lift the sewer from the lower levels, to cost £2800 This amount has been saved by the gravitation scheme, together with the annual cost of running the pumps. There are 29 septic tanks in the borough, and notice has been served upon all property owners with septic tanks to get their premises connected with the main sewer. The notices are being complied with as sooa as the drainage facilities are available. This, of course, applies to all the premises in the new drainage area.
