WAIHI LOAN PROPOSAL. RATEPAYERS TO DECIDE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent) WAIHI, this day. A special meeting of the Waih. Borough Council was held last evening to consider notice of motion by the Mayor (Mr. Wallnutt i to the effect that his proposal of a Waihi special loan o: £20.000 under the Local Bodies Empower ias Act. 1926, for the relief of unem. ployment in carrying out certain im portanc public works in the town, in eluding the completion of the Waih Beach Road, be submitted to the rate pavers at the by-election on Septembe: 2-t." Several councillors spoke against th< principle of borrowing, but asrreed to th, poll. The Mayor, in reply, said that no othe public body in the Dominion had raise' such, objections to an unemploymen loan a≤ had been raised by the Waih Council. The completion of the road t Waihi's health resort could not b carried out except by way of loan. H considered Waihi was taking on a ne , lease of life in view of the improved ou' look for the mining industry. The motion was carried unanimous!*-.
