He put in an application 1 tor a position on arrival liere. and was i practically assured of a position by a t local official; but as the latter had no i authority to engage new men he was told < to write to Wellington, which he did. For 1 reply he was informed "the Department < does not offer positions for those over i the age of 17."' Another glaring instance i of Government hypocrisy and red tape. — < I am, etc, " * FAIR GO.
