3YA, CHRISTCHURCH.

REPORTS ON RECEPTION. GOOD LOCAL RESULTS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. After the first programme from 3YA, the new Christchurch broadcasting etation, listenere-in declared that the reception was satisfactory. Messages were received from Rarotonga and Chatham Islands reporting good reception. ' RECEPTION IN AUCKLAND. WAVE LENGTH DIFFICULTY. Local wireless people had- a limited opportunity last night of listening to the first programme from 3YA, the new Christchurch station. From results obtained in various parts of the .city it is obvious that, under present conditions, Chriatchurc-h programmes will be enjoyed here on only one night per week, to wit Monday, when our Auckland station is silent. It was found quite impossible on several good sets to tune out Auckland, while tuning in the southern transmission, which is on a wave length very close to our own. When IYA closed flown for a quarter of an hour to enable listeners to hear Christchurch, the items from the Cathedral City came in clearly, and with perfect modulation. In fact, the selections by the Municipal Band were of much better tonal quality than thoso beinp rendered locally a few minutes previously. In the matter of 'signal strength, the 3YA broadcasts did not compare with, either Brisbane or Sydney, and the former station, where the wave length approximates that of Christchurch, is likely to cause some interference. There is a very general opinion here, as further south, that much dissatisfaction will ensue until the transmission wave of 3YA is considerably lowered.
