PEACE IN PACIFIC
AUSTRALIA AND JAPAN. MELBOURNE, August 25. All the speeches at the luncheon given by the Commonwealth Government to the Japanese delegation to-day expressed the hope that Japan and Australia would 00-ofierate in ensuring peace and harmony in the Pacific. In the absence of the Prime Minister, the sniests were officially welcomed by the Treasurer (Dr. Page), who expressed the view that such visits from Japan would strengthen the good feeling botween the two nations. The Nottingham Miners' Association has published the following significant decision: '"Unless the national executive of the Miners' Federation is in a position to enter into the general negotiations with the mineowners, the Nottingham Association should be authorised to negotiate locally."—(A. and N.Z.)
