DISORDERLY CONDUCT.

MAIN TRUNK INCIDENT. AUCKLAND J.P. INTERVENES. (By Telegraph—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. When Ernest Blades, a seaman, aged 37, roughly handled a companion, or, to use his own words, just placed his hands on his companion's face, in a second-class carriage on the Main Trunk express at 3 o'clock this morning, he did not know that Mr. J. H. Hannan, J.P., a well-known Aucklander, would see him and take it on himself to give him (Blades) in charge of a constable who happened to be on the train. When Blades appeared before Mr. Page, S.M., in Court to-day, he pleaded guilty to a charge of acting in a disorderly manner, but denied assaulting his friend, one Thomas Appleby.

The sub-inspector said accused was very drunk. The assault was not serious, but Mr. Hannan had witnessed the affair and informed the constable.

Accused: I just put my hand over his face. It was not a blow. My friend apologised to mc this morning.

Counsel: I understand that Blades' mate did not want to prosecute at all.

Blades was fined £1 for disorderly conduct. On the assault charge he was convicted and discharged.
