NEW ZEALAND STAMPS.
THE KING'S LIKENESS. PROBABLY WORST KNOWN. (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, August 29. "We shall not be surprised if it is soon withdrawn," states the Ipswich stamp dealers, Messrs. Whitfield, King and Co., referring to the issue of New Zealand's new 2/ and 3/ stamps. "The likeness is deplorable." The firm added: "If it is withdrawn it should be valuable from the collectors' viewpoint, owing to its scarcity, but the King's likeness is probably the worst which has ever appeared on a postage stamp."—(Sydney "Sun.")
