Mrs. Cresswell is going on later to Wellington, where she will spend some days as the guest of their Excellencies at Government House. She sails for England on September 11 by the Rotorua. An amateur entertainment of unusual excellence is being held in the Parish Hall, Devonport, in connection with a "Popularity Contest," in aid of the Catholic Church Building Fund. Last Thursday's entertainment was in support of "L'lnconnue," an unknown competitor whose name will not be divulged until the final function, which will be held in about a fortnight's time. A comedy in two acts, "Her Castles in Spain," followed by a farce. "The Roll of the Drum," written and produced by Mr. T. Scobie Cornish, kept a large audience thoroughly entertained and interested all through the evening's programme. All the character* were taken by local talent, each impersonator meeting the ready appreciation of the audience. The finished acting of Mrs. T. S. Cornish, who took the leading part in each play, was much applauded and a great asset to the company. The caste was filled as follows. The comedy: Mrs. Riversdale. Mrs. T. S.
