ST. GEORGE'S ROWING CLUB.

ANNUAL PRIZE NIGHT. MOST SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. St. George's Rowing Club's functions are always of a most enthusiastic and sporting character and the annual prize-giving and reunion of members held in the Masonic Hall, Prince's Street on Saturday evening was no exception to the rule. The long tables were filled with members, both young and old, as well as many guests. It is 42 years ago since St. George's was founded and during the years that hava passed numbers of Auckland's most prominent citizens have been either associated with or members of the club. Commodore 11. W. Hudson presided and nmonest the guests at the "top table" wire Captain Lee, a rowing man of repute from Ireland, who also saw service in the Great War : Mr. E. Buckler, secretary of ten Auckland Rowing Association ; Mr. A. C. Nt.rdern. captain of the West End Rowing Club, as well as officers from H.M.S. Diomede. Mr. Hudson presented a large number of handsome and valuable cups and prizes to the winners. The toast of "St. George's Rowing Club" was? proposed by Mr. E. Buckler. The secretary of the Auckland Bowing Association. Responding the commodore said he was pleased to be with them again, especially as he was one of the original founders of the "old club." After having referred to the death of the late commodore (Mr. Tewsley), Mr. Hudson proceeded to inform members that the club had the fullest sympathy of the Gov. rnment, and the Public Works Department in regard to the Judge's Bay embankment. The Government and Public Works Department realised the good work the club had done and was doing. In conclusion the commodore remarked, "aud tho bay is not closed yet." Mr. V. Dunn ', captain, who was also called upon to respond, extended a hearty welcome to Captain Lee who had represented the Limerick Rowing Club i'liii Shannon Boating Club. Ireland. The toast of "(lid Members'" was proposed by Mr. K. D. Page. d"puty-captain, was acknowledged by Messrs. Hudson, Stitchbury and o'Gorman. Mr. P. Barry proposed "The Auckland Rowing Association," to which Mr. A. Wilson, treasurer, (if the A.R.A. responded. He, too, welcomed Captain Lee to rowing circles on the shores of th" Waitemata. A capital programme of musical and other items was rendered. Those contributing to the entertainment were Mr. Jenkins, Mr. P. Hayes, Mr. Rex. Yates and Chief Petty Officer W. Houghton, of H.M.s. Dlomede.
