DIAMOND JUBILEE.

SISTERS OF MERCY, OTAHUHU,

On Saturday the Sisters of Mercy celebrated the sixtieth year of the opening of a convent in Otahuhu, and their many friends gathered in the convent grounds to do honour to the occasion. Old pupils of the convent came back again for a day to renew old friendships and to meet again many of the Sisters who had taught them in childhood. About 40 Sisters arrived in the morning, mostly those who at one time or another had taught at Otahuhu.

Their. Lordshipe Dr. Cleary and Dr. Liston were present, and each in a short speech congratulated the Sisterhood on its many years of devoted labour in the parish. Rev. Father Skinner (parish priest) also spoke, and, quoting from old accounts, gave the cost of the building of the convent 60 years ago as £270. The old building (with additions) still stands to-day. Mr. T. O'Connell, representing the old scholars and the present parishioners, warmly congratulated the Sisters on their jubilee, and presented them with a cheque for £60 —£1 for each year of their residence. After some musical items afternoon tea was served. The Papatoetoe Band, aided by members v>f the local band, enlivened the afternoon's proceedings.
