THE PREMIER'S DEPARTURE.
NO AUCKLAND -FAREWELL. The Prime Minister (Mr. Coates) will not be given a farewell in Auckland prior to hie departure for England to attend the Imperial Conference. During the visit of the Mayor (Mr. George Baildon) to Wellington this week the question of his farewell was discussed, and Mr. Coates said he did not desire euch a function to be held, as he would have no time in which to attend it. He explained that he would go direct to Matakohe to see his mother before leaving, and would return to Wellington to catch the mail steamer Makura on September 14.
The Mayor said that in the event of Mr. Coates arriving in Auckland on his return from England about February next, the City Council would no doubt wish to extend a civic welcome.
