TOLL OF THE PITS.

FORTY-SIX MEN KILLED. NEW YORK, August 27. Forty-six men. are believed to have been killed in a shocking mining disaster at Clytner, Pennsylvania. An explosion occurred in one of the pits. Only five men escaped alive. All hope for the rest of the underground workers has been abandoned. Rescue parties braved the deadly gases in the mine and succeeded in bringing, out the five survivors. Three of the bodies of the killed have been recovered.
