The State Treasurer announces that a State loan of £6,812,000. for a renewal of the loan which expired on August 10 last has been fully subscribed. It bears interest at five and a quarter per cent.—(A. and N.Z.) MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS. LABOUR DEFEATED. (Received 10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. The annual elections for all metropolitan and country municipalities, with the exception of the Melbourne and Geelong City Councils, resulted in a general defeat of Labour candidates, except at Footscray, where they gained two seats. The question of. the amalgamation of Fitzroy with the city was carried by a small majority.—(A. and N.Z.)
